NanoFocus introduces new 3D measurement software µsoft metrology
On the occasion of the leading industry trade show Control, NanoFocus AG, manufacturer of measuring technology, introduces its new 3D measuring software µsoft metrology. The software is based on a new ergonomic interaction model which incorporates the experience and input of long-term users of the previous software µsoft control. µsoft metrology guides the user in intuitive steps from switching on the system to the representation of optimal, norm conforming 3D measurement results. It maximizes ease and safety of use. In the second half of 2011, µsoft metrology will be available as standard software with all µsurf measuring systems, or it can be implemented as an upgrade.
A clear interface and the structured user menu of µsoft metrology, which was entirely planned and designed by NanoFocus software development, guide the user more efficiently through the entire measuring process. A large live-image screen facilitates locating the areas of interest. A further innovation is the snapshot-technology developed by NanoFocus. After locating a specific area of the sample, the optimal measurement result is only one click away. µsoft metrology automatically controls all settings like focal area or light intensity, all while leaving enough opportunity for individual adjustments made by the user.
µsoft metrology fulfills the highest requirements of traceability of measurement results by using the internationally standardized X3P-format. The free exchange format was developed by the openGPS-consortium chaired by Dr. Georg Wiora, head of innovation management at NanoFocus. It allows for a normed storage of 3D point data together with a meta-data record. The measurement data delivered are, furthermore, conforming to norms ISO 11652, ISO 4287, ISO 5436-1 und ISO 5436-2.
The software delivers a realistic 3D-representation of measurement results with intensity overlay. In comparison to conventional microscopic technologies, the user profits from a highly accurate, in-depth microscopic pictures due to the confocal technology. Users are also able to recall previously saved measurement recipes for recurring measurements. Adjusted exactly to the hardware and optimized for Windows 7, µsoft metrology enables a precise and reliable control of the measuring system.
Close cooperation with long-term users of NanoFocus software solutions confirmed that the new software fulfills all daily as well as specific requirements of customers. “We want to enter new territories with µsoft metrology”, explains Jürgen Valentin, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of NanoFocus AG. “At the same time, no functionalities valued by our customers are lost.” User studies were carried out in advance for a target-oriented determination of the potential for optimization. “The result is a software that leads the user to a measurement result even faster with operational safety and ease of use – all while keeping the proven conformity to norms and traceability,” assures Valentin.
